|A Walk in the Woods|

Bill and his childhood (overweight) friend, Katz, set off with packs full of Ramen noodles to experience over 2100 miles of the great outdoors. Bryson's writing is relaxed and insightful. The reader feels both the exhaustion and the exhilaration of the "through hiker" who is always listening for sounds outside of his tent that may signal a bear is entering the camp. I grew up on the east coast, frequently visiting the Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina and Skyline Drive in Virginia, so this book has special meaning for me. The library owns regular and large print editions as well as an audio (cassette) version of this book.
