Jack London

Jack London was restless.  He attributed his restlessness to a "seeking spirit." Before he was seventeen-years-old, he had been both an oyster pirate and a member of the shore patron tracking down his former workmates. He had been a seal hunter in the Bering Sea, had cleaned and shoveled coal in a saloon, and had ridden the rails across the country only to end up in prison as a vagrant. Between age seventeen and his early death at age forty, he continued to seek new experiences. Those experiences provided material for internationally acclaimed magazine articles, short stories, and novels.
