Design-a-Bookmark Contest

Attention aspiring artists, submit your original artwork expressing the 2015 Summer Reading Program’s them, “Every Hero Has a Story.”  Design your bookmark on an official entry form which contains all the contest guidelines.  Contest winners will be the official bookmarks of Washington Public Library’s 2015 Summer Reading Program and widely distributed at this time.

Celebrate National Poetry Month by submitting an original haiku poem.  Selected haiku verses will be written in chalk on the pavement in the Children’s Plaza for all to enjoy.

Show the world!  Use your artistic side and submit a portrait of your selected special person/hero on an 8 X 12 piece of paper.  We will display your work in the library's art gallery sometime during the summer.  Submissions will be accepted during the month of May.  Please include your name and phone number on the back.  Thank you for sharing!

STEM Robotics Workshop

Create an animated robot using Legos.  This hands-on demonstration is presented by Sylvan Learning Center.  Limited to 24 participants.  Registration begins Monday, April 13, 2015.

Mademoiselles ages 4 and up, bring your madame extraordinaire (mother, grandmother, or auntie) to the library for a spring extravaganza.  We’ll practice our royal struts and waves, expand our vocabulary with fancy new words, and indulge in sweet treats.  Registration is required.  Limited to 50 people per program.  Registration begins Monday, April 27, 2015.

DASH for the STASH

 

April 15-May 15, 2015

April is Financial Literacy Month, and the Missouri Council on Economic Education has partnered with the Missouri Secretary of State and the Investor Protection Institute to offer libraries, schools, economic education centers, and other interested organizations a new investor education program called "DASH for the STASH". It’s a great way educational opportunity for library patrons  and a chance to win a $1,000 Individual Retirement Account. In collaboration with the Investor Protection Institute, the State Securities Administrator will sponsor the DASH for interested libraries and award the $1,000 retirement account to one person residing in our state. The library that has the most DASH players will be awarded $100.

“Mining Your Soul Story” Writing Workshop with Mary Byrne Eigel

May 2nd, 9th, 16th, & 30th

2-4pm

Using various prompts, reflective journaling time, and shared conversation, you will be given tool for mining and writing your own soul story.  This workshop is intended for everyone—whether you are new to writing or a long-time journal writer.  Limit 25 people who will attend all 4 sessions.  Registration begins Monday, April 20th.
