Who can participate? 

The NEA Big Read Art Contest has two age categories:

  • Youth: ages 13-17
  • Adults: ages 18 and older

Youth entrants must have a parent or guardian sign their contest entry form.

Participants must live in Franklin, Warren, or Gasconade County (or the portion of Sullivan in Crawford County).

 

How to enter?

Participants must complete a contest entry form.

There is a maximum of two entries per participant; a contest form for each entry is required.

Participants must deliver entries to a Scenic Regional Library between Monday, October 7, and Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 5:00 PM.

Participants’ submission(s) may utilize any form of art media.

Each work submitted for the NEA Big Read Art Contest must meet the following standards:

  • Represent the theme “Station Eleven: Year 30 Post-Georgian Flu”
  • Appropriate for a Library, public setting
  • No smaller than 8 x 8 inches (2D), 3 x 3 x 3 inches (3D)
  • No larger than 48 x 48 inches (2D), 24 x 24 x 24 (3D)
  • Weigh no more than 30 lbs.
  • Must be self-supporting (3D) or include wire hanger on back (2D)

 

Exhibit and awards:

All entries will be exhibited at Scenic Regional Library’s Union branch from October 15 through November 4. They will be displayed at East Central College during “An Evening with Emily St. John Mandel” on Tuesday, November 5.

A panel of judges will select Best of Show in the youth and adult categories, as well as six Awards of Excellence overall.

Awards will be given during a public reception on Wednesday, October 30, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.

Best of Show (one prize for each age category) – $100 gift card to an art and craft supply store

Awards of Excellence (six awards given to other notable submissions among both age categories) – $50 gift card to an art and craft supply store

Participants must pick up their submissions from Scenic Regional Library’s Union branch by Saturday, November 9 at 5:00 PM.
